With religious intolerance (and intolerance among the religious) dominating headlines, it’s no surprise that porn would find its way into the mix. Pornstar Mia Khalifa has shot into the limelight over the last week for a couple of reasons. The first is PornHub announced that she was the most searched-for pornstar on their site. Since they’re the most popular tube site in the world that’s a very impressive feat, especially considering that she was a relative unknown several months ago and beat out the massively popular Lisa Ann, the former holder of the crown. The second and most disappointing reason is, due to her Lebanese background and appearing in a video for Bangbros wearing a hijab, she’s been receiving multiple death threats.
You might think that’s pretty rattling for a 21-year-old who is just embarking on an adult film career, but she’s taken it in stride and has been retweeting some of the more unsavory threats on her Twitter profile.
One critic went so far as to post a video of a prisoner getting beheaded and photoshopped her head on the unfortunate soul. Photoshopping takes time, man. That’s dedication to your cause right there. Mia resides in Miami and lived much of her life in Maryland, but she was born and lived in Lebanon until she was 10 years old.
I know if I were a young woman and getting people spewing hate at me, I might crumble under the pressure. Not this feisty gal. Nope, not only is she retweeting her threatening messages as I mentioned before, but she’s also responding with a good amount of snark to her haters, urging them to pay more attention to their own political upheavals rather than to her hardcore career choices. Meow.
It’s pretty awesome that people think they can just judge you to the nth degree because your parents happened to conceive you within the borders of a certain country (and by awesome, I mean so NOT). It’s porn, people. Let’s not get our undies in a wad. She’s sucking and screwing and is being paid while it’s recorded. She’s not rolling over puppies in tractors here. Some are labeling her as a feminist while others are knocking her for perpetuating sexism among her culture. I think maybe we’re digging a wee bit too deep into this. She’s a former fat chick (“So fat,” in her own words) who got hot and now all the dudes who ignored her want to fuck her. To quote Mike Jones, “Back then they didn’t want me/now I’m hot, they all on me.”
