According to the Merriam-Webster online dictionary, the first known use of the word "wow" as an interjection to express someone's strong reaction to an event was back in 1513. It doesn't say whether that person was surprised, pleased or a combination of both. At any rate, flash-forward to present day and I think that even though WOW Magazine isn't very surprising, is it pleasing.
However, the WOW in WOWMagazine is written in all capitals, as it's an acronym for Women Of the World. I should also mention that the site used to exist under a different domain (The Girls Of Wow) and once signed in, you'll actually be redirected there. I can tell you that this current version looks nothing like the old one did.
The design is far more contemporary, even if using thumbnails on a black background is hardly cutting-edge. However, it's a bit of flash without substance. For example, there's a section of videos, but it only contains a sampling of the 65 movies you'll actually find on the site. Actually, they're not even complete versions, just streaming clips that even non-members can watch on the tour page.
Your best bet for finding everything the site has to offer is to simply visit the "browse the girls" section, where you'll also find the 105 sets of large high-res pics. I wouldn't call it ideal navigation-wise, but it does (eventually) get the job done.
Now although the photos seem to be consistently high in quality, the video quality seems to vary a lot with some good-quality footage along with some average files and a few in HD. Also, even if it's quite handy that the images are in Zip files, it's inconvenient that the vids, which tend to be short, must be downloaded in Zip files and extracted before playing.
It's been a few years since we reviewed the old Girls Of Wow site and this new version has a similar amount of content. I imagine they've repackaged some of the same material, but there are some recent updates that seem brand new. Even so, they're only updating about once a month.
The site has both good and bad points, but its low cost membership proves to be the ace in the hole here. Even if the quality can vary and the organization isn't that terrific, WOW Magazine seems bargain-priced. It costs about what you'd pay for an actual print magazine, so you can easily get your money's worth.
